Come swim with me to the African continent, where you will meet the Nile Perch and the Bull Shark in my artwork, “Stories of Africa’s Migratory Fish.” Under the sparkling blues, there exists a river ecosystem full of life that I loved to explore as I created this piece.

Through this artwork, I not only show the beauty of rivers, lakes, estuaries, and coastlines but also why it is important to protect them. These waters act like magical highways, carrying fish species from one place to another. When we care for them, we keep marine life safe, ecosystems balanced, and life full of wonder.

The Story of the Nile Perch

Following the invasive nature of the Nile Perch, enhancing marine life safety in these waters is crucial in conserving other species. As shown in my artwork, at the southern end of Africa’s outline, there is a Nile Perch entering the water, leaving splashes behind that show its big impact.

A long time ago, in the 1950s, the Nile Perch was introduced to African rivers for commercial fishing. However, this species became a powerful hunter, eating many tiny local fish called cichlids.

With lots of fingerlings and no natural predators, the Nile Perch eventually became the boss of the river by the 1980s.

A Bull Shark Crosses the Border

On the western side, a calm Bull Shark swims through the borders with vigor and vibrancy.

The most interesting bit about this species is that it can move between freshwater rivers and salty waters. This remarkable ability allows the Bull Shark to travel through very different environments during its life.

Tiny Whispers of Life

Do you see the white floaty like bubbles below? They are tiny whispers of life, full of plants and little creatures.

They remind us that a river is never just water. Beneath its surface exists a living world where plants, fish, insects and countless small organisms depend on one another.

Where Water Meets the Wild

The cloudy sky and lightning strike expose the secrets of how nature can be wild, surprising, and full of energy.

In the corner, the golden, textured part of land sparkles, showing where the rivers begin and reminding us how rivers guide the journeys of fish across the land.

While appreciating the facts about the Nile Perch and Bull Shark, this creative art piece shows us that rivers are magical because they provide homes for countless creatures and support the plants acting as food for marine life.

Therefore, let us celebrate Africa’s migratory fish and remember how every species invites us to explore the beauty of the underwater world and safeguard biodiversity.
